The Ten Commitments For Marketing Sites

1. Avoid Flash and Graphics

If you believe that your content ( information & services ) will benefit visitors or they are seeking for, try to your best not to make it heavy with Flash and graphics.

Use these add ons at minimum and try to fill it up with texts instead of pictures. This will help search engines to recognise your site.

Excessive graphics will turn visitors away on the long run, WHY?
Your site will not be supported by all explorers and monitors, let's take Google as an example.

Certainly Google is capable to launch the most pretty site an eye ever seen yet graphics are rare with only light touch, if you change your desktop settings or navigate using any browser ( Explorer, FireFox, Netscape, opera or Avant ) the site is displayed the same screen width without change.

The best design depends mainly on CS'S, HTML and DHTML with touches of Flash and Graphics.

2. Java Script ... red alert

This technology has two sharp edges, either adds fine touches and semi - dynamic unique appearance to your site OR send your visitor away forever.

Your choice as to where to use and its programming are the factors that count.

As to where, we see some marketeers abuse visitors by forcing them to vote for their favor in ranking sites or set the we page as his home page while others show welcome messages and other data in the state bar.

One of the good application of Java is a pop up message that appears on wrong entry to forms or forgetting a necessary field soon after pressing the Send button.

This pop up message was created by a Java Code Script to check entries. For short do use Java where is needed but do NOT offend your visitors.

As to programming, Java is a language that differ slightly than that of the so if it
works with Explorer it may not with FireFox hence attention to which navigators are targeted must e taken.

Whether Java Code is self made or imported you have to be sure that it is supported by different browsers so as not to slowdown your site as many visitors will not tolerate.

3. Be creative ... Do NOT Copy

A carbon copied site is condemned to failure from the very beginning. This phenomena is excessively increasing these days, they use the same classifications and design even colors and sometime the contents.

Some newbies think that by imitating a successful existed web site they guarantee success in advance, which is not true.

Do design your site guided by another BUT only copy slight details.

4. Simplicity ... simplicity

I won't talk much about, just remember the above mentioned example about Google web site which is top simple. It represents a blank white page with simple logo and search template, is that right?
Yet it is the most visited page in the world!! isn't it?

5. Do Not Show All Your Cards

Some marketeers make a common mistake by trying hard to offer all what they got at once ( ideas, products, services and information ) following the principle " Start Strong, Stay Strong " or the 4S's.

This principle is well applied here too but not to the extent of all what you have. Start your strong site with elegant services, attractive and not familiar but not all what you intend to or already working on.

Adding a new page, headline, link or topic every while would make your visitors feel your presence behind the site and that you are human not an autopilot, a person that realises their need for information and constantly supplying it.

These additions strengthens your inter-relationships and their link to the site.

On the contrary, if visitors found the site as it was a couple of months ago what make them revisit? they will reach a conclusion that this site will not improve any further.

Google again, it starts with only one service : search engine with many pages scroll one after the other, then adds photo, video and shopping search then Google Earth then the interactive Gmail service that was like no other at the time.

Google visitors became more loyal and dependant while the relationship became more sincere as it keep surprising its visitors with new services, it will not take long, I imagine, before someone may call Google asking for emergency help!

6. Consult Your Visitors

Some marketeers think that they are well aware of their visitors inner wishes, mentality and their life goals. They then assume what their needs are and their likes & dislikes and plan their services accordingly.

Try constantly exploring your visitors' heading in life, preferences, opinions, ideas ... etc. using a survey tempelate in the home page. Do not think of as a decor but try to put subjective questions.

Answers to those questions will pour directly in the mutual benefit of both : You and your visitors.

Place " Add a Comment " or " Contact Us " in every page top and bottom and make sure the form is ready for visitor's entry, not enough to place your email at the page's bottom. After all You need the comment not the visitor who needs to express his views.

The last important point in this topic is to maximize benefit from sign - in data and survey.
The cpanel of your site provides lots of useful information such as number of clicks in certain month, which day of the month, which hour of the day, from which countries, using which browser, what operating systems they use, which page visited more, which file more viewed ...etc.

Make sure to make a good use of these precious information and employ results for the sake of your site / business.

7. Make a clear improvement Plan

The direction of your site must be clear to everyone, visitor should be ale to immediately recognize its identity whether it is cultural, entertaining, educational, religious or whatever, so don't mix things up.

One have to decide how would improve the site BEFORE establishing it, not after.

Define your direction, your targeted visitors ( never say : all, or you'll fail ) then start designing and launching the site.

8. Follow up Technical Advancement

Nowadays many people are seeking to have personal we pages to offer general services to visitors, this is healthy however they fail to chose the right direction and no ahead plans for improvement. As time goes on they fail and return back to be visitors to other sites.

That is to say that being a Web Master is a matter not realised by most site - owners, they do not know how to apply Hack nor to modify, they can't use the cpanel nor site's software, activate or deactivate some applications.

They are totally dependable on the site provider forgetting that he won't e responsible forever, a year maximum.

Learn the basic software and how to apply or modify and it is not a problem to launch your site before that but do not depend on somebody else for good.

From the very first day try to solve any problem yourself but take a backup copy to all files before making any adjustments.

Follow-up Technical Advancement in the field, search specialised forums and search engines to solve the problem you're facing then start immediately applying what you've learned step by step.

Amazingly easier would things become and gradually you will master your site.

Now you deserve the title " Web Master "... Congrats.

9. Search Engines ... waterfall of visitors

During your searching in Google you see small ad. squares in either side of the page or topping search results. Those are advertisers chose to show their ads. whenever a search is done using the words you used.

This service eases the ad. delivery to targeted customers, simply identify your site using some words and whenever a word or a combination include this word is searched, your site link or ad. will appear to the seeker who may click it.

You will pay for very click / visit made, if your ad. appears 1000 times and no one clicked it you won't pay.

You can determine how much money to pay per day, after which your ad will appear no more till next day.

The free alternative are friendly sites, sites indexes, other search engines, forums, social networks, mailing lists ...etc.

10. Do Not Spam

The bad reputation. Avoid Spam Mail
Avoid pop up ads., besides it annoys visitors to be forced visiting another page it is also blocked y most browsers automatically so stop wasting your time and money.
